MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — When cold weather comes...it's time for comfort food!
Much like George Costanza, central Georgia is shifting into soup mode.
February's cold temperatures have us searching for comfort foods. And what's better than a hot bowl of soup?
If you want to try some "soup"-er soups in central Georgia, one Milledgeville Sandwich shop has you covered.
Stacked Sandwiches & More not only has double decker sandwiches and wraps, but also some of the best soup around, according to several people in the area.
They're known for their tomato basil soup, along with their roasted red pepper.
"We've been serving our roasted red pepper soups and tomato soups for almost 10 years now. I think everyone knows they're staples of Stacked that we are going to sell year round...and they love it. They keep coming back for it," owner Mandy Sibilsky said.
You can pair the tomato basil with a delicious four-cheese grilled cheese that melts in your mouth, or keep it classic by adding a few crackers.
The tomato is a bit spicy, which gives it the perfect kick that topples it into sublime territory. It balances perfectly with the melted grilled cheese.
The roasted red pepper is a bit sweet, and has a sweet and savory combination that Siblinsky says guests love.
"The tomato soup is a little bit spicy, which I think is a little different, and the roasted red pepper is actually the opposite, its sweet...and has smoked gouda cheese in it, so its super good," she said.
They serve up soups and sandwiches from 11 to 4 most days, and strive to get to know their customers as they do it.
Sibilsky says their customer service is what makes them stand out.
"...you have to create that relationship with people so they have a reason to come back. Everybody can make a sandwich or make soup that is gonna be good and a good lunch option for you, but not everybody can create the relationship that we've built," she said.
As customers flowed in around lunchtime, they formed a line that stretched across the restaurant.
Despite the long line, each one was greeted with a smile. Several regulars stopped to chat with Siblinsky and her workers, telling them about their families and their day.
It was clear Siblinski had passion for the food, but also fostering friendships with each person that came through the door.
If you want to try Stacked for yourself, you can find them at 1827 N Columbia Street in Milledgeville.
