WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Every fall, the Hispanic community celebrates Dia de los Muertos, or "Day of the Dead."
This year is no different, with a second annual festival in Warner Robins. The city and Community Culture and Arts helped to put on the festival again, celebrating the lives of loved ones who have passed away.
Tradition says lost family members return one night a year to be with their loved ones, as families put together altars, or ofrendas, with family pictures, food, sweets and decorations.
The festival, which runs through Sunday, offers live music, food vendors, face painting, arts and crafts, and contests. It's usually held outside, however had been moved indoors due to weather. The event usually brings out around 1700 guests.
There were several schools in attendance offering various activities or services. Mercer provided face paintings, while Emory University provided free breast cancer screenings. There was also a wide variety of handmade decorations adorned with several colors of the rainbow.
It was open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
