MACON, Ga. — The 13WMAZ weather team has issued a Weather Impact Alert Day for Saturday morning, as this is the first morning of our big cool-down for the weekend and the upcoming week. Lows will drop close to or below freezing temperatures. This comes in light of a series of fronts that will pass through this week and usher in much cooler air from up north down into the southeast.
Here's what you need to know
When:
A Weather Impact Alert Day is in place for Saturday morning as overnight low temperatures dip to the coolest they have been this season. Saturday morning marks the beginning of a stretch of mornings near or below freezing throughout the rest of the weekend and into the work week.
Impact:
Very cold morning lows around or below freezing temperature are forecasted. It is not certain that everyone will see lows below 32 degrees, but the issuing of the Weather Impact Alert Day is in effort to prepare you for our stretch of the cold weather that will persist through the weekend and much of the work week ahead. Models are calling for temperatures here in central Georgia that will be the coldest we've seen since February earlier this year, and it is the first big cool-down we've experienced in a while.
Need:
You'll need to be sure to bring in your pets and plants that you do not want outside overnight during these cold temperatures.
Taking proper precautions to prevent pipes from freezing is also a safe measure to take.
Ensure tire pressures are up to par, as very cold air can cause tire pressures to lower if you park outside.
If you're planning on heading out the door around sunrise, be sure to bundle up as well.
