MACON, Ga. — June 22, 2023, 5 PM Update: Tropical Depression Four is now moving across the mid-Atlantic. 'Four' has maximum sustained winds of up to 35 mph. The pressure has dropped, strengthening the pressure gradient which resulted in stronger wind speeds compared to this morning.
This system is still moving westward at 14 MPH. This storm will likely form into a tropical storm. This is the third named Tropical Storm in the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Unlike its sister storm Bret, Cindy is forecasted to make a northwestward track towards the Central Atlantic. It will continue on as a tropical storm until weakening back into an area of low pressure, towards the beginning of next week.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Bret has just seen an increase in pressure, meaning it's gotten weaker over the past few hours. Wind speeds are dropping as it crosses the Lesser Antilles. It is tracked to continue eastward as a tropical storm, weakening back into an area of low pressure by this weekend.
Although seeing tropical systems this early in the season isn't necessarily unusual, the locations in which they are forming are quite odd. Typically in the month of June, tropical activity is typically closer towards the Gulf of Mexico, similar to that, of Arlene that formed earlier in the season.
