MACON, Ga. — A stretch of blistering hot days continues in Central Georgia. The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for the fourth day in a row for all of our counties except for Upson and Lamar counties from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. tonight.

Heat indexes have the potential to climb up to 109 degrees during the hottest part of the afternoon.

We're not alone in this dangerous heat, as the southern portion of Georgia, along with most of the southeast and southern Plains and Atlantic Coast regions of the country are under some sort of Heat Alert as well.

Places near in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi are under an Excessive Heat Warning, as well as the Mid-Atlantic.

This advisory comes in light of temperatures forecasted in the upper 90s today along with a very humid atmosphere still present. Rain chances look very low on Futureview, but some models have some isolated showers and storms bubbling up in our southern and eastern counties.

Still, more areas will remain dry rather than wet, allowing heat indexes to continue to climb with no interruption of rain-cooled air.

Fortunately, clusters of showers and thunderstorms look to form tomorrow afternoon ahead of an approaching front to make any scorching heat indices very short lived and keeping actual temperatures lower around average.

With dangerously hot temperatures in store for this afternoon, we want to remind you to most importantly stay hydrated, but also to take frequent breaks in the shade or air-conditioning to keep your body cool and avoid heat illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Along with taking care of your body, also keep your furry friends in mind as on days like today the hot ground can run some 50 degrees warmer than the actual temperature.

Be sure to limit their time outside and keep them in the grass to the best of your ability, or get them a pair of shoes to walk on those hot surfaces so their paws don't burn up!
