Severe Weather Preparedness Week 2024: What each day covers and what you need to know

The week highlights specific tips and information for severe weather events we see here in Central Georgia.

MACON, Ga. — Every day is an important day to be weather aware. But one week a year, the National Weather Service takes it a step forward.

Feb. 5 through Feb. 9 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week for Georgia. Each day, the National Weather Service covers a different topic to ensure you are properly informed and ready to act when severe weather does strike.

Here's a look at what each day covers:

On the NWS' website, they say their goal is to help keep people safe along with breaking down misconceptions about severe weather.

For instance, they note that while tornados are more common during Spring, tornados are also common in Spring and Fall, too.

At the end of the day, it is all about being weather aware. While this is important every day, Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Georgia hopes to give you the tools to be as prepared as possible.

Each day ultimately serves as an opportunity to learn more about the wide variety of weather we see each year here in Central Georgia, not to mention how you and your family can be best prepared when severe weather strikes.
