Hurricane Idalia hits Treutlen County. Here's what happened:

Treutlen County experienced powerful winds and rain from Hurricane Idalia, but some businesses kept their doors open throughout the storm.

TREUTLEN COUNTY, Ga. — Treutlen County met the powerful storm, Hurricane Idalia, early Wednesday afternoon. There was plenty of rain, which lasted for hours.

Throughout the day, 13WMAZ crews saw fallen trees and inches of rain piling up on the side of the street.

Some power outages also hit Treutlen County. Some of them were caused by fallen trees, causing the headquarters of the Treutlen Emergency Management Agency's headquarters to run off a generator.

As the rain and winds started to slow down, the reports from people started flowing in. One report said a tree fell on an apartment, but there were no injuries.

The county's Emergency Management Agency director Justin McNure said the focus for Wednesday and Thursday is getting the roads clear.

"Our main concern from now until tomorrow is to get roads back open, repair roads," McNure said. "Our dirt roads are a mess. Some of them you can't even pass down them, so our main concern is to restore power and repair roads."

McNure advises those with a morning commute to leave early in case debris is still blocking the roads. The school district did say all students and staff will return Friday, Sept. 1.

Earlier when the storm began to bring heavy rain, many people started to stay off the roads and some businesses began to close.

But one business, Dennard's Drugs, opened at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning and planned to stay open for normal business hours.

Aside from computer and power problems throughout the day, Lanie Hutcheson says not too many people seem affected by the weather. They stayed open until 6 p.m.

"It's been a normal day besides the rain. Our doors being blown open," Hutcheson said. "Customers are still coming out, and that's about it."

Throughout the day, we've seen fallen trees and inches of rain piling up on the side of the street.
