ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — Remnants of the strong storm that moved through Rockdale County during the overnight hours paint a picture of how powerful the wind and rain swept through the area
A tornado warning was issued just before midnight for a portion of the county, forcing residents to seek shelter. After the storm passed, 11Alive crews went to the area to scope out the storm damage reported near Sigman Road.
11Alive's Jerry Carnes found a car smashed by a tree. A law enforcement officer on the scene said a teen driver was inside the vehicle and that the tree was sitting in his lap after it fell. The teen was pulled from the car and taken to the hospital.
Photos show the extensive damage where the SUV's rooftop is smashed. Miraculously, the driver is expected to be OK, the officer said.
11Alive's Cody Alcorn also found trees down all around a church off of Main Street in the area.
Downed power lines also made it difficult for crews to get around.
11Alive has reached out to Rockdale County authorities to find out about other damage reports and to see if any injuries have been reported.
