MACON, Ga. — July 2021 will go down in the meteorological record books as mild and wet in Central Georgia.
Macon observed 7.44" of rain during July, which is 2.65" more than we normally see during an average July. Overall, it rained 17 out of 31 days during the month.
The 7.44" measurement is the most rain Macon has seen in the month of July since 1994, when the city observed 18.16" of rain thanks to Tropical Storm Alberto, causing widespread flooding.
Past Julys have seen similar rainfall totals.
In 2018, Macon saw 6.37" of rain and in 2013, Macon experienced 6.97" of rain.
July is typically our rainiest month of the year. This year is no different thus far. Only March comes close to July in terms of rainfall with the city seeing 6.36" of rain.
The overall average high temperature for July will clock in at 91.7°, just a tenth of a degree shy of the average of 91.6°. The start of the month was below average, but we quickly got into the neighborhood of average by the middle of the month.
Only the last week of July experienced high temperatures above the daily average high. July 29 was the warmest day with a high temperature of 98.
Official observations for the city of Macon are taken at Middle Georgia Regional Airport, south of downtown. While not necessarily representative of the entire area, each city has one designated location for the official observation site.
