Kemp provides update on Helene recovery; President Biden visiting later today

President Joe Biden is due to visit Georgia to tour Helene damage, while Gov. Brian Kemp gave remarks in the mid-morning.

ATLANTA — President Joe Biden will visit Georgia today and Gov. Brian Kemp said in a mid-morning that 33 people in Georgia have died as a result of Hurricane Helene.

In mid-morning remarks at the Georgia Capitol, Gov. Kemp detailed the tremendous scope of the damage and cost in Georgia brought by Helene.  His full remarks are available for replay in the YouTube player below.

President Biden, meanwhile, was in the Carolinas yesterday, and his visit follows on a visit to Georgia yesterday by Vice President Kamala Harris, who was briefed on recovery efforts in Augusta and delivered remarks.

The president is due to travel in the later afternoon to the Valdosta area. There are currently no details available on what his visit will entail.

Kemp in the last week has visited the Valdosta and Augusta areas, both hard-hit by Helene. Former President Donald Trump was also in Valdosta this week to tour the area and give remarks.
