MACON, Ga. — A strong line of storms is moving through Central Georgia bringing strong winds, lightning, and heavy rains.
The winds have caused down trees, power lines, and widespread power outages across the region.
Georgia Power has released the following statement at 8 a.m. on Monday:
"Crews are working safely and as quickly as possible to restore service today following high winds, heavy rain and severe weather Sunday. We have already restored service to 200,000+ customers and will continue to update our map with the latest information as our crews are in the field. Thank you for your patience, and please stay safe."
MONROE COUNTY:
UPDATE: Phone lines have been re-opened including the 911 numbers.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says to please use caution if you are traveling outside.
Macon:
There are reports of downed power lines at Lamar Road and Zebulon Road. A downed tree is also blocking both sides of the road at Lamar Road where it meets Zebulon Road.
There are reports of power lines down and trees completely blocking the road on Tucker Road at Belleview Church.
According to reports, a tree is down on a powerline stretching across Price Road, near Tucker Road.
Nearly 10,000 people in Macon are without power due to the severe storms moving through the area, according to the outage map by Georgia Power.
Milledgeville:
More than 1,600 Georgia Power customers are without power in Milledgeville.
Rest of Central Georgia:
According to the Flint Energy outage map, nearly 4,000 customers are without power. This includes more than 2,000 in Houston County.
Dublin, Gordon and Fort Valley are all experiencing power outages in spots.
