TIMELINE | When Central Georgia goes from cold to freezing, and how long

Here's a breakdown on how the cold air will impact Central Georgia

MACON, Ga. — The holiday weekend has already started for many, here is a look at how cold it will be and when over the next few days.

Thursday night: Light Rain Chances & Steady Temps

Thursday night includes light rain chances over much of Georgia. Central Georgia will not see any type of winter precipitation. Temperatures will continue to be in the lower 50s thanks to the cloud cover overhead. Rain chances should clear out early Saturday morning. 

Friday morning: Showers clear out as cold front passes

The cold front will pass through Friday morning around 6 a.m. Once the cold front moves in, winds will pick up with gusts up to 40 mph. Temperatures will range between 20 and 30 degrees.

Colder air will be moving in behind the front with strong winds. The wind will make it feel a lot cooler outside. Wind chill values will be in the single digits in some spots. Temperatures will continue to drop with arctic air still moving in. 

Friday evening: Temperatures & Wind speeds drop

Around 7 p.m. Friday, temperatures will finally start to drop as the sun sets. The wind speeds will calm some but will continue to be apparent. Temperatures will drop into the upper teens. Rain chances will be obsolete from here on out. 

Saturday morning: The coldest air moves in 

The coldest air will move through on Saturday morning and there will be drier air in place. We could see temperatures as low as 12 degrees in Central Georgia. The feels like temperatures could drop below zero due to wind in the area.

Saturday Evening: Warmer but still below freezing

Winds will start to die down and the sun will help warm the surface. Nevertheless, it will still be very cold with temperatures staying below freezing.

Sunday Morning: Not as cold as Saturday morning, but still cold.

Looks like another cold morning on Sunday. Once again waking up in the 20s, wind chills in the teens. Be sure to grab some Chapstick and lotion as its going to be a very dry next few days.
