MACON, Ga. — The 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse is Saturday, October 14th. Solar eclipses are annular when the moon is farthest away from Earth. From Earth, the moon looks smaller. The moon is too small to cover the entire sun, even if they are directly in front of one another. A 'ring of fire' will surround the moon. Despite the eclipse being annular, it is still dangerous to look directly into the sun or an eclipse of any magnitude.
The annular solar eclipse will be in Oregon, North California, Texas, and the four corners states. Farther from that axis, there will be a partial eclipse. About 50% of the sun will be visible during the eclipse's peak.
In Central Georgia, the eclipse will begin around 11:45 am. The peak will be at 1:14 pm, and the eclipse will be over at 2:48 pm.
