MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — A wreck involving an 18-wheeler on I-475S left one person dead and another injured Friday morning in Monroe County.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened just before 5:15 a.m.
They got a call about an 18-wheeler that hit a car near mile marker 12. That's on the stretch north of the Collaparchee overpass, which is north of the Zebulon Road exit.
When deputies got there, an 18-wheeler was on its side off the road and another car was damaged.
Preliminary investigation shows the 18-wheeler was driving southbound when it hit the car and slid off the road on its side.
The sheriff's office says the driver of the 18-wheeler died in the wreck. The driver of the car was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health with minor injuries.
911 calls to Bibb County before the accident suggest the car broke down and was sitting in the far left lane when it happened.
The sheriff's office says they do not know if the car had moved to the emergency lane.
Next of kin is still being notified and and the accident is currently under investigation.
