WILKINSON COUNTY, Ga. — A truck crash has happened along State Route 441 in Wilkinson County. So far, we know it is a fatal accident.
61-year-old Randal Wilson from Milledgeville died when two trucks collided at the intersection of State Route 112 and U.S. Highway 441.
According to deputy coroner Dusty Thomas, it happened around 3:20 pm and this was a T-bone accident.
One truck was going north, and the other truck was going west.
There is a stop sign along State Route 112, but the Georgia State Patrol says the westbound truck did not stop and struck the other truck. Both trucks caught fire.
“This is a very dangerous intersection," Thomas said. "We have had multiple wrecks over the past 20 years I’ve been working here. When you are out here, wear your seatbelt and drive safely.”
The driver of the truck that was hit was pronounced dead on the scene around 5 p.m.
After his truck caught fire, they say the driver was able to get out of the truck, but he was "engulfed in flames."
He collapsed on the road and died from his injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The state patrol says the driver who allegedly ran the stop sign was taken to a local hospital with a possible broken leg.
"This is just a dangerous intersection and they need to come in and put in some caution lights here or maybe even possibly a red light," Thomas said. "I know it's way out in the county but with the amount of fatalities that we have had at this intersection, I think they need to possibly looking at a red light at least some caution lights or a lit stop sign."
The Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident.
