RHINE, Ga. — Drivers who frequent Highway/SR 230 are in for a long detour, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced Monday.
It’s because crews will begin rebuilding the bridge at 230 and Lower River Road – just northwest of Rhine -- starting on March 15.
The bridge upgrades will cost around $2.395 million and GDOT says the project will require a 120-day long detour.
It was built in the 1960s and doesn’t meet current design standards, but the new construction will make the bridge longer and wider with six-foot shoulders.
