MACON, Ga. — The 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse was on Saturday, October 14th. Solar eclipses are annular when the moon is farthest away from Earth. From Earth, the moon looks smaller. The moon is too small to cover the entire sun, even if they are directly in front of one another. A 'ring of fire' surrounded the moon. Despite the eclipse being annular, it is still dangerous to look into the sun or an eclipse of any magnitude. Here are some photos you guys sent in from the 13 WMAZ Weather Network Facebook Group! Annular Solar Eclipse Photos from Central Georgia
The full annular solar eclipse was in Oregon, North California, Texas, and the four corners states. Farther from that axis, there will be a partial eclipse. About 50% of the sun was visible during the eclipse's peak. In Central Georgia, the eclipse began around 11:45 a.m. The peak was at 1:14 p.m., and the eclipse was over at 2:48 p.m.
