MACON, Ga. — Trayvion Butts is a Twiggs County native and has been a member of the Macon Boxing Facility at Freedom Park for years.
Now, he’s going pro.
"Took a lot of hard work, a lot of days of training, a lot of dedication. My pops really pushed me to this level each and every day," Butts said.
Butts is set to compete at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Saturday for a special year-end Premier Boxing Champions event. Mayweather Promotions, a boxing promotional firm founded by Floyd Mayweather, is organizing the competition.
Floyd Mayweather posted about the event on Instagram.
“Who’s excited for Mayweather Promotions to bring boxing back to Atlanta on the 28th of this month?,” Mayweather wrote in a post.
Butts will be fighting against Malik Warren, a Mayweather Promotions signee.
"Look at it mentally. That's where it all is," he said.
Butts says, for him, boxing is generational. He has been boxing for 16 years and his grandfather and father used to box as well.
"Representing the 478 also and keeping the family legacy going because this is a family tradition," he said. "One day I want to be a champion. I want to be a real champion, so that's my goal."
When Butts gets in the ring on Dec. 28, he says he’s ready to win.
"What's going through my head is winning. I don't even worry about losing. My main goal is getting in doing what I'm coached, and trying to get the win," Butts said.
If he wins the match-up, Butts says the title is not his main priority.
"A title don't mean nothing to me and like I said both of us are 130 pounds and we're just both going to go out there and do what we're coached and box," Butts said.
You can buy tickets for the series of face-offs online at the Mayweather Promotions website.
"I just want to appreciate Mayweather for giving me the opportunity to come and compete with his fighter," Butts said.
