Houston County quarterback and 4-star QB Antwann Hill Jr. commits to Memphis

Hill was the top uncommitted quarterback in the class of 2025

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Football just secured one of — if not their biggest — recruits in program history.

During an Instagram live on Saturday afternoon that included Atlanta-based rapper Quavo, Class of 2025 4-star quarterback Antwann Hill Jr. (AJ) announced his commitment to the Memphis Tigers.

Hill was fielding offers from over 30 schools, but his decision came down to Memphis and Florida, two schools he visited with in May and June.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound quarterback is entering his senior year at Houston County High School in Georgia. According to On3 Industry Ranking, he is ranked as the 200th overall prospect in his class and the 15th best quarterback. Hill is also the top uncommitted quarterback in the class of 2025.

Hill initially committed to Colorado last year but chose to decommit and reopen his recruiting which allowed Memphis to try and woo Hill.

With Seth Henigan finishing up his college career at the end of this season, Memphis will need a new starting quarterback for 2025. Hill could fill just that spot.

"You always want to have someone that you can build upon in that position but it's also nice to have a veteran presence," Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield said after Hill visited Memphis. "Obviously Seth will be gone so, 'Hey, who is the next best player?' You always hope they are on your roster, but you've got to explore every option, whether it's in the portal, in recruiting, high school recruiting."

Silverfield and Memphis are no strangers to starting a true freshman under center with Henigan doing just that in 2021 and holding the starting spot for his entire career.

Right now, the Tigers have three QBs battling for Henigan's backup spot and hopefully the starting spot next year.

Memphis Football begin the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug 31. at 6 p.m. at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
