MACON, Ga. — While football playoffs continue to wind down, the flag football postseason kicks off on Thursday.
The Westside Seminoles completed another historic regular season, and are preparing for their third-consecutive playoff appearance.
Winning has become the standard for Westside under head coach Josh Grube, but coach said it took some convincing at the start.
"It's been nothing but a blessing to do this job," Grube said.
The former Westside football coach has been coaching flag football since the sport started at Westside three years ago. Since then, the Seminoles hold a 40-6 program record including their perfect 13-0 season this year.
Grube said he wasn't expecting so much success.
"I ain't gone say we expected to go perfect. We knew we would have a good chance in our region ... we've played some good teams and we've beaten some good teams," Grube said. "We feel really confident in the schedule we've played so far and I know it's helped us out,"."
The Seminoles have never lost a region game and were named area champions for the third year in a row. Senior running back Kaila Lucas said it's become the normal.
"It feels really good," Lucas said. "Honestly, it's nothing new to us. It's just a really good feeling so we can move on to our new goals - which is going deep into the state playoffs."
"Our first year we made it to the elite eight and got beat by one point. Then last year we got beat in the second round," Grube said. "We've hosted three years in a row and we want to make some noise this year and we know it won't be easy."
Lucas said the girls have been able to make a name for themselves and flag football, giving some other sports at the school a chance to mimic their success.
As they prepare for the first round of playoffs, Grube just wants the girls to take advantage of rare experience.
"I don't want to have no regrets," Grube said. "Whenever our final game is - if it's not in the championship, if it's Thursday - I want there to be no regrets."
Westside faces Shaw in round one Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Ed Defore Sports Complex.
