3 takeaways from No. 1 Georgia's 48-3 win over Tennessee Tech

The Bulldogs crushed the Golden Eagles in their second game of the season. Take a look at how it happened

ATHENS, Ga. — While not a surprise, Georgia football had an easy time in its home opener against Tennessee Tech on Saturday.

The Bulldogs won handedly, defeating the Golden Eagles 48-3.

Here's a full breakdown of the Bulldogs' Week 2 beatdown.

Shining in limited action

With Georgia playing a smaller school like Tennessee Tech, it was expected that the starters wouldn't see the field for long.

However, quarterback Carson Beck made the most of his time in the pocket and pushed the football down the field efficiently.

He completed 72% of his passes and threw for 242 yards and five touchdowns.

Running back and Florida transfer Trevor Etienne made his Georgia debut and ran for 78 yards on only five carries in limited action.

Georgia's starting receivers Arian Smith, Dillon Bell and Dominic Lovett all found the endzone and had more than 30 yards receiving each. Smith led the group in receiving with 73 yards and four catches.

Overall, the Bulldogs starting offense was incredibly efficient and showcased its strengths, even if it was for only two quarters.

Shutting out its competition

The Bulldogs defense nearly netted their first shut out since defeating Vanderbilt 55-0 on Oct. 15, 2022.

However, a late field goal prevented them from accomplishing that feat. That doesn't change the fact that Georgia's defense had no issue dealing with Tennessee Tech all game.

The team bullied the Golden Eagles all game and wracked up nine tackles for a loss and three sacks.

Defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins was constantly in the backfield and had three tackles for loss. Fellow defensive lineman Christen Miller was also dominant as a pass rusher, netting a sack and tackle for loss.

Freshman safety KJ Bolden was all over the field and netted his first sack of his career.

At cornerback, Daniel Harris saw a lot of playing time opposite Daylen Everette, as the Bulldogs look to solidify a starter at that position. Julian Humphrey still saw the field though, as the position battle seems far from over.

Georgia's linebackers were also as dominant as ever, as the group of CJ Allen, Smael Mondon Jr., Raylen Wilson and Jalon Walker combined for 14 tackles, but Allen led the way with five tackles and a tackle for a loss.

Getting everyone involved

While the Bulldogs took their starters out early, it allowed Georgia fans to get a look at future starters.

Freshman defensive lineman Jordan Thomas entered the game and got the first sack of his career.

Other freshmen like Demello Jones, Chris Cole and Quintavius Johnson saw the field extensively as well.

Freshman Nitro Tuggle had his first catch of his career, as he had an out route for 9 yards. Fellow freshman Jaden Reddell also had his first catch, which was a 5-yard reception.

Quarterback Gunner Stockton also got on the field for the Bulldogs, and completed 83% of his passes and had 90 yards, but could not get the ball in the endzone.

Overall, 25 different players had at least one tackle, 15 players had at least one catch and the overall depth of the Bulldogs got experience that could be beneficial one day in the future.
