The Macon Sports Hall of Fame welcomed its Class of 2014 Thursday night at the Macon Centreplex.
On that list are former Lanier football player of the year Danny Minor. Minor went on to letter and have continued success with the Army at West Point.
Earl Bowden swings his way into the hall as one of Macon's top all time amateur golfers as well as hunkering down at U-G-A under the legendary Howell Hollis.
Wanda Burns Jackson, a Southwest Patriot enters the scene as an All State turn All American basketball guard at Florida State. Burns-Jackson still holds several Seminoles records.
Dr. Bill Barnes founded Piedmont Orthopaedic Complex, and has especially helped high schools for the past 30 years.
Barry Veal, current Jones County baseball coach, had an outstanding prep career at FPD in both baseball and basketball. Veal went on to become a 4 year starter with Mercer on the diamond and two time All conference selection.
Rusty Wynn is a decorated high school official for more than 40 years who retired last December. He officiated in more than 1,000 football games including some 80 playoff series.
Walter Daniels, another proud product from Southwest under the leadership of Don Richardson. Daniels won two state titles with the Patriots then went on to All S-E-C honors at Georgia while serving as team captain.
Bruce Gordy is another Lanier standout who excelled on the hardwood. Gordy finished his career as a Mercer Bear, where he is a member of 1,000 point club.
And lastly Mike Jolly the state back of the year on the last GHSA state football champion teams from Macon in 1975. The former Central Charger enjoyed collegiate stints at Georgia Tech and Tennessee State before playing pro ball in the USFL.
