FFN Roundup: FPD holds onto win, while Central Georgia running games dominate

Here's a breakdown of the top games and performances during Week 5 of Football Friday Night

MACON, Ga. — It was another great Friday night for football.

There were plenty of blowouts, but plenty of close, hard fought matches too.

Sumter County and Fitzgerald toughed out close games, while Dublin and Telfair County blew out their opponents.

Here's a full roundup of scores and highlights from teams in and around Central Georgia.

Game of the Week: FPD vs Westfield

There was a lot on the line for both teams.

Both Central Georgia programs entered the game with only one loss and needed a win to continue building momentum. In the end, FPD claimed a 28-23 win over Westfield in a close game.

Westfield wound up losing, though they took an early 10-0 lead thanks to a Jackson St. Clair 40-yard receiving touchdown. FPD quarterback Major Simmons willed his team back with a passing and rushing touchdown to get his team into the endzone and the Vikings' first lead of the game.

Two more Simmons touchdowns, including a 70-yard rushing touchdown, gave FPD a massive 28-10 lead.

It all seemed over for the Hornets, but they weren’t out of it just yet. Quarterback Brayden Gay threw two touchdown passes in the last six minutes of the game, including a 75-yard dime for a score.

By that point, however, it was too late. FPD claimed its fifth win of the season, while Westfield fell to a 3-2 record.

Three Stars

Nick Woodford and Reginald Glover, backfield duo for Northeast: It was a dominant offensive performance for the Northeast Raiders on Friday, and a large amount is thanks to the teams’ dominant duo in the backfield.

Woodford and "Bam" Glover teamed up to pick ACE apart on the ground, and took down the Gryphons 46-0. Together, they had multiple rushing touchdowns and Glover even threw the ball for a 20-yard touchdown pass to Josh Evans.

The Northeast defense deserves its flowers for shutting an ACE team that had scored as many as 51 points this season, but Woodford and Glover’s performance on the offensive side of the ball was nothing less than stellar.

Travis English, running back for Warner Robins: While three-star Georgia Tech commit Rasean Dinkins got the scoring going with a 65-yard punt return touchdown, it was “Sweet Feet” English who fueled the Demon offense to a dominant lead early.

The junior was dominant on Saturday and was involved in nearly all of Warner Robins’ 42 points scored against Veterans. English was also responsible for nearly every one of Warner Robins’ touchdowns in the second quarter.

He had an 11-yard and 14-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, and he found the endzone one last time for a 12-yard rushing touchdown in the third.

Fellow running back Da’veon Latimore found the endzone in the fourth to round out the dominant Demon performance, but that won't take anything away from English's stellar day.

Phillip Brown, Dodge County head coach: It may be a new regime for the Indians, but Dodge County is having one of its best season in some time.

Brown has turned around the Indians quickly in his first season with the team. They have their best record since 2018 and are still undefeated after five games.

Dodge County has a tough matchup against Southwest in Week 7, but a win against a region rival could give the team its best start to a season since Rex Hodges was their head coach.

What's next

Some of the highest scoring offenses across Central Georgia in Week 6 are set to play in Week 7.

Southwest and Dodge County will faceoff in Eastman, while Northeast and Dublin will play in two of the biggest games of the week. Meanwhile, Mary Persons will take on fellow Central Georgia program Upson-Lee.

Peach County faces a tough test in Westover after a dominant performance against Northside, while ACE will look to bounce back with a game against East Laurens. West Laurens will look to regain its strong momentum the team started with this season on the road against Baldwin.

Finally, while not likely to be competitive, Houston County and Veterans are set to play each other in a Freedom Field showdown.
