MACON, Ga. — Breakout players on a football team can make a huge difference in wins and losses for the season.
For the Tattnall Trojans, Antone Johnson is one of those game makers.
“He’s a big part of what we do. Offensively, defensively, he’s a homerun hitter for us,” Head Coach John Abernathy said. “Anytime he has the football in his hands something magical can happen. He is a guy that gets us going. If he is having a good game, we probably are too.”
Johnson is a team leader on offense and defense, but also outside of practice.
“He's always encouraging our guys make sure they're doing right,” Coach Abernathy said. “You know he's our, probably our vocal leader on the team. Guys look to him. He's a guy who wants the football. The guys know he needs to have the football.”
Johnson is the leading rusher, averaging over 100 yards a game and 8 touchdowns on the season. Johnson plays running back and safety for Tattnall, and he stand at the 5th highest tackler with 26 total tackles.
Johnson said his passion for the game came from his parents ever since he was 4 years old.
He has spent nearly four years as a Tattnall Trojans. In that time, Johnson and the team have created a lot of memories.
“4th & 25, and we'd go for it was against Stratford. And of course, we gave him the football, and some of the magic happens, right?” Coach Abernathy said. “He gets a first down. We go down, score, go for two and beat Stratford.”
Johnson’s senior brings a lot of time to reflect. He said he has come a long way.
“Definitely a team player. Now, I used to be myself guy, but we worked on it way better than back then,” Johnson said.
As for the future, Coach Abernathy said the sky is the limit for the senior star.
