FFN Roundup: Upson-Lee hangs on against Peach County, John Milledge extends historic win streak

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from around Central Georgia.

MACON, Ga. — The ninth week of Football Friday Night is in the books. This week offered up some big upsets, a couple of nail-biters, and a region showdown with Upson-Lee and Peach County in a nail-biter.

Here is a look at a roundup of scores and highlights from around Central Georgia:

Game Of the Week

Upson-Lee 21, Peach County 20

Who knew a decision to go for two in the first half could be so crucial to the outcome. Peach County did just that and came up just short. But overall, this game shows just how legit this region is. The Knights and Trojans put on a show on Friday night and the win for Upson-Lee sets up a region title game next with Mary Persons. This has been quite the turnaround for the Knights after a 4-7 season last year to 8-1 heading into the region title game next week. They’ve been one of the best stories in Central Georgia football this year.

Three Stars

John Milledge Academy: All they do is win and now they have the longest active win streak in the country with the win over FPD on Friday night.

Howard: They notched a big win over Griffin this week and could position themselves for a potential showdown in the final week of the season against Westside with a playoff spot on the line. But first they have to get past West Laurens.

Baldwin: Speaking of that region, what a big win for the Braves over Westside. They are currently sitting at No. 3 in the region and could lock up that spot if they are able to win out. The win over Westside and Howard a few weeks ago puts them in a good position.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Mary Persons vs Upson-Lee

It really doesn’t get much bigger than this. These two teams have been on a collision course for a few weeks now. Both managed to get over the Peach County hurdle. Coach Brian Nelson and the Bulldogs are looking for their first region title since 2018 and Coach Justin Elder and the Knights are looking for their first region title since 1993. Yes, you read that right. A win for Upson-Lee would be historic. While a win for Mary Persons would feel like a “Texas is back” type of moment as the Bulldogs have struggled since 2018 to find that dominance that appears to be back.
