FFN Roundup: Perry rallies to beat Baldwin, Mary Persons outlasts Peach County

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from around Central Georgia.

MACON, Ga. — The ninth week of Football Friday Night is in the books. This week offered up some big upsets, a couple of nail-biters, and a region showdown with Baldwin and Perry.

Here is a look at a roundup of scores and highlights from around Central Georgia:

Game Of the Week

Perry 33, Baldwin 16

The Panthers looked like they were in trouble early in a game with big region title aspirations on the line. Baldwin put up 16 and looked to be cruising to a win but Perry’s defense didn’t allow another score. This allowed the offense, which struggled through the first couple of quarters to flip the switch and rally for a big win.

Three Stars

Mary Persons: The Bulldogs had not beaten Peach County since 2018 but in a low-scoring affair on Friday night they managed to pull out the tough win. Another key stat from 2018? It is the last time they won their region. The win over Peach County seems to put them in the driver's seat with a few games to play.

Upson-Lee: Speaking of teams looking to win a region title, the Knights went out on Friday night and took care of business with a shutout win over Jackson. With Peach County and Mary Persons left on the schedule, it would have been easy to look past Jackson but they stayed focused. Now they must take down Peach County and Mary Persons to win the region title but they still control their own destiny. It will be a tough task as they are just 2-14 in program history against those two teams.

Jones County: Speaking of teams keeping their region title hopes alive, the Greyhounds did just that on Friday night with a gutsy win over Dutchtown. The game against Warner Robins in a couple of weeks will likely decide the region champion and the No. 1 seed.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Upson-Lee vs Peach County

As mentioned above, the Knights are looking to keep its region hopes alive and the Trojans are looking to play spoiler. These two programs are really good. Peach County’s record this year is not a true indication of just how tough they are to beat. Mary Persons has consistently been one of the top 5 teams in Central Georgia this season and Peach County took them down to the wire. Upson-Lee is riding high but it is a must-win game against Peach County next Friday.
