LOS ANGELES — A pair of Georgia quarterbacks shared a special moment on the field last Sunday before the Rams played the Commanders.
In a video released by the NFL, UGA standout Matthew Stafford was warming up on the field when Jake Fromm, a former Houston County star and UGA quarterback, came up to say hello.
“Great to meet you, man.” Fromm said.
Stafford responded with a “yeah, you too.”
Then Fromm hit Stafford with a line that left the Super Bowl-winning quarterback feeling his age.
“Grew up watching you, man. Big fan. I look forward to watching you play.” Fromm said.
Stafford turned to a member of the Rams’ staff and said, “That’s Jake Fromm, old Georgia quarterback. He just gave me the old man treatment. Like, ‘grew up watching ya.’”
Fromm was complimentary of Stafford on the latest episode of the Punt & Pass Podcast that he regularly hosts alongside Georgia great Drew Butler.
“I got to meet Matt Stafford. He put on a clinic against us. We are talking like five no-look passes. Just some top-tier level, this is what the best of the best can do and do every Sunday. He has just been incredible for so long. So really awesome to meet him.
Stafford starred at Georgia from 2006 through 2008 under former head coach Mark Richt. The Bulldogs went 30-9 during that time with wins in the 2006 Peach Bowl, the 2008 Sugar Bowl and the 2009 Capital One Bowl.
Stafford was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He played the first 12 years of his career before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. He led the Rams to the Super Bowl that season with a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Fromm once manned the offense at Houston County High School before heading to Georgia to play for Kirby Smart. Fromm also played three seasons at Georgia from 2017 through 2019.
In his first year, Fromm led the Bulldogs to a National Championship game appearance after knocking off Baker Mafield and Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl.
In 2018 and 2019, Fromm took the Bulldogs to the SEC title game but lost to Alabama and LSU. But did pick up a win in his final game against Baylor in the Sugar Bowl.
Fromm was taken in the 5th round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He has since played for the New York Giants and is currently a member of the Washington Commanders practice squad.
