MACON, Ga. — Nadia Reese is a three-year softball letter winner and four-time varsity basketball player for Stratford Academy.
Although she loves both sports, she says it's no secret whats her favorite sport to play.
"Basketball, definitely. I love softball because I love the teammates I play with and my coach, but I'm not as good at softball as I am in basketball," Reese says.
On the floor, Nadia has picked up All Region and All State honors for her dominant play, and this season she was selected as a captain of the Eaglettes, helping showcase her leadership running the X's and O's for coach Ed Smith.
Reese says, "I'm definitely a leader by example. Here at Stratford, Mary Elaine Mitchell is mostly my vocal leader, so she covers that, so I cover the angle of working hard and showing my teammates that working hard will bring success."
Coach Ed Smith says, "She's a great leader, forget all her talents. She loaded with talents -- 1,000-point scorer -- and I could throw stats at you all day, but she's such a great kid, great leader, great teammate, and we're just so glad she chose to come to Stratford and play for us."
Like on the floor, Nadia's numbers also raise eyebrows in the classroom to the tune of an 1160 on her SATs and a 4.03 GPA. Nadia says these stats are the ones she's most proud of as a student athlete for Stratford.
"Grades are my number one priority. When I first came to Stratford, the question was what about her grades? Grades are very important to my family so I made sure to always maintain my grades, always," Reese said.
It's achievements like this and more that make Nadia Reese our Athlete of the Week, as she helps lead her teammates to their goal of 5 straight region 1-7A championships.
Nadia and the Eaglettes are 17 and 2 and travel to Twiggs County Friday night.
