Macon is hosting a big challenge in the ring this month.
Freedom Park's Bishop Frank Ray Arena is the site of Georgia's Golden Gloves boxing tournament. Coach Earnest Butts says the sport is important for young athletes in the community, and it's at a whole new level with the Golden Gloves tournament in town.
The four-day event is designed to help boxers get ready for Olympic qualifiers.
"We're basically giving them an outlet. Every guy can't make the basketball team. Every guy can't make the football team," Butts said. "In boxing, it's a one-man war. They get out here and do their thing, and there may be another Mike Tyson another Evander Holyfield."
The tournament continues Sunday, and wraps up February 21-22, with the championships scheduled for Sunday.
