MACON, Ga. — Mercer has tabbed the woman to take over as its women’s basketball head coach following Susie Gardner’s departure after the season
Michelle Clark-Heard will take over as the 11th head coach in program history.
Clark-Heard comes to Macon from Mississippi State, as she was part of the Bulldogs’ staff for the 2023-2024 season.
She previously spent 13 years as a head coach across three different stops. During her time at the following schools Kentucky State, Western Kentucky and Cincinnati she amassed a 252-147 record.
Clark-Heard has led her teams to seven postseason appearances including four NCAA Tournament berths. She also has won a pair of regular season conference titles and four conference tournament titles.
"Michelle Clark-Heard has already established herself as a coach that can build and maintain championship programs," said Mercer Director of Athletics Jim Cole. "She has had tremendous success at every stop in her coaching career, and has done so with great vigor and integrity.”
At Mississippi State, she served as an assistant coach and an Assistant Athletic Director for Women’s Basketball.
"I'd like to take this time to thank President Bill Underwood and Director of Athletics Jim Cole for allowing me the opportunity to join the Mercer family," Clark-Heard said. "My family and I can't wait to get to Macon and get started. I look forward to continuing the winning tradition that has been established for many years in the program already. The passion and pride built around Mercer makes this such an exciting time, and I can't wait to meet our amazing young ladies and get to work."
