ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia will begin work to restore Sandford Stadium's iconic hedges. The Bulldogs have been playing "between the hedges" since the stadium's dedication in 1929.
"This year, the hedges will be revitalized to protect one of college football’s greatest traditions," a release from the university stated.
UGA officials said the most recent hedges, which generally last between 20-40 years, were installed during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
The university said it had been growing replacement hedges to support repairs and continued growth.
In February, officials said the University of Georgia Athletic Association will replant the hedges, replace the soil, irrigate, and perform drainage work.
The revitalization work will continue throughout the spring and is estimated to be finished by the 2024 G-Day Game.
