Dawgs on top: Georgia moves up to No. 1 in latest College Football Playoff rankings

All it took was a dominant Dawgs win to get them back to the top spot.

ATLANTA — The College Football Playoff committee has changed its mind.

After the Georgia Bulldogs were put at No. 2 in the first two College Football Playoff rankings, the Dawgs were bumped up to No. 1 in the nation in Tuesday's latest rankings release.

It appears the CFP committee was just waiting on UGA to stamp an elite win on their resume. Georgia dominated No. 9 Ole Miss at home in Sanford Stadium by a final score of 52-17 Saturday night -- a statement win for the Dawgs' program this season.

Ohio State, who had been ranked No. 1 the past two weeks, didn't necessarily do anything to lose their top spot. They beat Michigan State at home 38-3. But if you watch the two teams, it's clear that Georgia is the more dominant team at the moment.

Georgia just added two top-15 wins to its resume, with two home wins over both Mizzou and Ole Miss, respectively. Ohio State's top wins came against Notre Dame and Penn State, who have been sliding a bit as of late.

UGA's ranking as No. 2 surprised and angered many Bulldog fans the past two weeks, especially given the fact they haven't lost a regular season game since 2020 and the fact they beat Ohio State in the 2022 CFP semifinal -- granted the two teams are fairly different a year later.

But the Dawgs are back on top heading into a road matchup in Neyland Stadium against the Tennessee Volunteers.
