UGA announces resignation of 2 football coaches

Special teams coordinator Scott Cochran is among the coaches leaving.

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia announced several changes to its football staff on Wednesday.

Special teams coordinator Scott Cochran and offensive analyst Darrell Dickey are resigning to "pursue other opportunities," the school announced in a release.

“I want to thank Scott and Darrell for their contributions to Georgia football. We wish them all the best moving forward,” Smart said.

Cochran joined Smart's staff at UGA in 2020 after spending 13 seasons under Nick Saban at Alabama as the Crimson Tide's head strength and conditioning coach. Cochran won two national titles as the special teams coordinator at UGA.

UGA announced that Kirk Benedict, who has served on Kirby Smart's staff as a special teams analyst the last two seasons, will be promoted to special teams coordinator.

The Dawgs will not head into the season with the following coaching staff for their main positions:

  • Head coach: Kirby Smart
  • Offensive coordinator: Mike Bobo
  • Co-defensive coordinator: Glenn Schumann
  • Co-defensive coordinator: Travaris Robinson
  • Special teams coordinator: Kirk Benedict
