ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Governor Brian Kemp took to social media to congratulate the University of Georgia Bulldogs on their dramatic victory over Georgia Tech in the latest edition of “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.”
Kemp, an alumnus of UGA, praised the Bulldogs for keeping the Governor's Cup in Athens. He commended their effort in a historic 44-42 win that stretched into eight overtimes. He also acknowledged Georgia Tech's competitive spirit, applauding their impressive performance and expressing optimism for next year’s rivalry game in Atlanta.
The game, the longest in SEC history, saw the Bulldogs overcome a 17-0 halftime deficit, highlighted by quarterback Carson Beck’s five touchdown passes and freshman Nate Frazier’s decisive 3-yard run in the final overtime. Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King also delivered an exceptional performance with over 400 yards and five touchdowns. Despite their strong showing, the Yellow Jackets fell short of ending their seven-game losing streak against the Bulldogs.
Kemp shared photos from the game, including one with the Governor’s Cup and another featuring family and attendees at Sanford Stadium, celebrating the electric atmosphere of one of college football's most storied rivalries.
