ATHENS, Ga. — Former University of Georgia Bulldogs' mascot Uga X passed away early Tuesday morning, according to UGA officials.
The bulldog, lovingly known as Que, died peacefully at his home in Savannah. He was 10 years old.
Que was born on May 27, 2013. He began his tenure as UGA's bulldog mascot at the Georgia vs. Georgia Southern football game on Nov. 21, 2015.
The beloved pup retired following the 2022 season after becoming the "most decorated of all the Bulldog mascots," according to UGA.
Uga X was the Bulldog mascot who presided over two SEC titles, the 2021 and 2022 College Football Playoff national championships, and seven New Year’s Six Bowl appearances.
Que passed the torch to UGA XI, known as Boom, in a special collaring ceremony before the G-Day spring game in 2023.
In 1956, Frank Seiler and his wife Cecilia Gunn Seiler began the beloved Uga tradition — when they brought their English Bulldog to the season-opener. Since then, the Seiler family, led by Charles Seiler, has raised a continuous line of dawgs.
“Things will be a little different around the house for a while,” Charles Seiler said. “Que traditionally starts barking for his breakfast around 5:30 a.m. This morning, Boom waited until 6:00 a.m. to let us know he was ready for his breakfast so he’ll be a little later each day.”
Gov. Brian Kemp also took to social media to react to Que's passing.
"Que leaves behind a historic legacy and will forever be in the hearts of the entire Dawg Nation. Rest in peace to a DGD!" he wrote.
