It's back in The Benz: College Football Playoff title game returns to Atlanta in 2025

It's the first stadium to host the CFP title game twice.

ATLANTA ā€” Mercedes-Benz Stadium has hosted several major events since it opened in 2017. It'll be the first stadium, though, to host the College Football Playoff title game twice when it returns to Atlanta in 2025.

The Atlanta Sports Council, along with Gov. Brian Kemp and Mayor Andre Dickens, made the official announcement during an event at the stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Dan Corso, the executive director of the Atlanta Sports Council, provided the opening remarks recounting that it was just two months ago that they were in the same room celebrating the news of being selected as a World Cup host site.

"Atlanta is the hottest city in the country for college football," Corso said following a short video presentation welcoming the CFP title game back to the Peach State.

Gov. Brian Kemp and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens were also in attendance and both echoed that the combination of friendly people and hospitable employees at the venues, airport and surrounding hotels are what drives people to want to return.

"I guarantee you we're not going to disappoint, and we're going to work hard to make sure that isn't the case," Kemp said.

Mayor Dickens reiterated the same sentiments Kemp noted regarding the inviting atmosphere that the city of Atlanta offers.

"Atlanta is a welcoming city and Atlanta is certainly a sports city," Mayor Dickens said. "The perfect combination to showcase the best college football has to offer."

Kemp said that the safety of the visitors and residents alike is of the utmost importance, and that the city and state are committed to providing that.

Before wrapping up, Dickens, a Georgia Tech alum joked with Kemp, a UGA alum, alluding to a prediction from the governor that the Georgia Bulldogs would win back-to-back-to-back championships heading into the 2025 title game in Atlanta.

ā€œIā€™m with the governor, we can get Georgia back-to-back-to-back and then in 2025 we can have the Bulldogs versus the Yellowjackets right here for the national championship," Dickens exclaimed.

The Benz previously hosted the championship game in 2018 when the University of Alabama defeated the University of Georgia by a final score of 26-23 in overtime.

The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl is set to host semifinal games during the 2022 and 2025 seasons.
