MACON, Ga. — One Bibb County Commissioner wants to rename Thomaston Road to Tobesofkee Parkway.
13WMAZ spoke with commissioner Joe Allen, plus a west Macon business to get their opinion on the name change.
Just about every day, you can find people at Tommy's Bakery and Cafe.
"We do everything from donuts to cakes to pastries, but also we do breakfast and lunch," said owner Tommy Sadler.
Right outside Tommy's is a busy Thomaston Road, but that could soon get a name change.
"That is not a bad idea because we can help Tobesofkee, we can bring revenue in, people where know where Tobesofkee is and we can help the businesses out there," Allen said.
Commissioner Allen and eight other commissioners voted unanimously to ask the Georgia General Assembly to change the name.
"If you name this Tobesofkee Parkway, it will be a lot easier to tell people how to get to this area, I think this side of town is kind of the forgotten side of Macon," Sadler said.
If approved, Tobesofkee Parkway would run from I-475 all the way to the Monroe County line.
"There [are] some that were not extremely pleased, but they know we have to have growth and knew we had to do something to try and save taxes," Allen said.
Allen hopes the new name brings more visitors to the lake, while Sadler hopes that means more people in his bakery.
"And I think it will add a little character to this side to rename this road and really promote the lake," Sadler said.
