UFC fighter Josh Samman died Wednesday days after he was found unconscious in his apartment, the Broward County (Fla.) Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. He was 28.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy, which was scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday, according to an office support specialist at the medical examiner’s office who declined to state her full name. Sandra, the office support specialist, said approaching Hurricane Matthew could delay the death investigation.
Both Samman and his roommate, Troy Kirkingburg , were found unresponsive Thursday night at their Hollywood Beach Gardens apartment, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.
Samman, who was moved to hospice late Tuesday night, was breathing and had a pulse Thursday after he was overcome by what Hollywood Police suspect may have been a drug overdose. Kirkingburg, who was also 28 and a native of Tallahassee, Fla., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hollywood Police told the Tallahassee Democrat that drugs may have been involved in the incident.
Samman, a middleweight, compiled a 12-4 professional MMA record and was 3-2 in UFC. He last fought at UFC Fight Night 91 in July, where he fell to Tim Boetsch.
