Stephen McDaniel, convicted of killing and dismembering a Mercer Law School student four years ago in Macon, has been moved to a new state prison.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, McDaniel is now being held in the Valdosta State Prison.
Since 2014, he'd been held in the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison in Jackson. That's the normal first stop for inmates entering the state prison system.
By email, corrections spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan wrote, "Reasons behind an inmate's transfer is confidential and part of their institutional file, therefore the Department cannot disclose that information."
McDaniel, now 30, pleaded guilty in 2014 to murdering classmate Lauren Giddings.
He was sentenced to life without parole.
