UPDATE: UGA students killed in crash identified

Officials in Oconee County confirmed an accident with four fatalities completely shut down an area road for several hours, Wednesday evening.

OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. -- UPDATE: The four UGA students killed in a vehicle wreck Wednesday have been identified.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the four female victims in the fatal crash on GA 15, north of Bob Elder Road in Oconee County are Kayla Canedo, 19, of Alpharetta; Brittany Feldman, 20, of Alpharetta; Christina Semeria, 19, of Milton; and Halle Scott, 19, of Dunwoody. The driver of the Camry, Agnes Kim, 21, of Snellville, remains hospitalized at Athens Regional Medical Center.

The accident happened in the 3900 block of Georgia Highway 15 and involved a vehicle with a Gwinnett County license plate officials with the sheriff's office said.

One passenger is still in critical condition.

The Oconee Enterprise reports that the accident happened near the Hot Thomas BBQ restaurant and involved two vehicles - one which left the road.

The newspaper also reports that the ones killed in the accident were all believed to be University of Georgia students. While the names have not been released, they were said to be females.

UGA president Jere W. Morehead released the following statement:

We are deeply saddened to learn of the heartbreaking and tragic loss of four students and critical injuries to another student in a terrible car accident last night outside of Athens. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of our students who were victims. We ask that you keep these students and their family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
