The Southern University football player paralyzed during a game against UGA last fall is making progress.

Devon Gales is on the road to improvement after suffering a paralyzing hit at Sanford Stadium in September 2015. After the injury, he began rehab at Atlanta's Shepherd Center.

Gales is now able to move his legs. Take a look at the video. Tish Gales, Devon's mom, said it was his first time moving his legs.

The video was taken about two weeks ago, Gales said the movement has happened several times since then. 11Alive's Blayne Alexander visited him at the Shepherd Center to talk about his progress.

In February, Gales headed back home to Baton Rouge, but not before meeting the UGA football team members who were on the field the day he was injured.

Founded in 1975, Shepherd Center is a private, not-for-profit hospital and is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 10 rehabilitation hospitals in the nation.
