ATLANTA — Flags in Georgia will fly at half staff in honor of those killed in the Hamas attack in Israel under an order issued Wednesday by Gov. Brian Kemp.
The flags will be lowered to half staff today and remain at half staff until sunset on Saturday, according to the order.
The governor posted on X: "As we continue to stand with and pray for the people of Israel, we're also mourning the loss of American citizens killed in the terrorist attacks. I have ordered the U.S. flag and the flag of Georgia to fly at half-staff on state grounds and buildings until sunset on Saturday."
The order issued by the governor highlights the 22 Americans killed in the attack, which occurred last Saturday in southern Israel.
"The people of Georgia mourn the American lives lost in these unwarranted attacks and join our close ally Israel in grieving all those who were taken from their families or injured," it states. "It is appropriate that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Georgia be flown at half staff in memory of those killed during these brutal assaults."
It adds that the the flags will therefore be flown at half staff "as a mark of respect for the memory of those killed in these unwarranted attacks."
