The state operates in a fiscal year that spans from July 1 to June 30.

The 2025 budget spends $36.1 billion in state money and includes pay raises for public school teachers and state employees. According to the Associated Press, public school teachers and pre-K teachers will see a $2,500 pay bump starting July 1 after the budget is signed.

State law enforcement officers and child welfare workers get $3,000 raises, the AP reported back in March when the budget was passed. State employees and state public university employees also get a 4% raise for those making up to $70,000.

The pre-K system overall is getting a boost, with a new infusion of $48 million in state lottery funds going to the Department of Early Care and Learning. Roughly $19 million is going to domestic violence shelters and support programs for sexual assault survivors. And, according to the AP, hundreds of millions of dollars are earmarked for increased state spending on nursing homes, health care providers, dialysis providers, physical and occupational therapists and some physicians.

At the end of February, Kemp signed the amended budget for the current fiscal year that included an additional $1.5 billion for state transportation projects, $250 million for local water and sewer projects, nearly $600 million for facility upgrades within the Department of Corrections system, $100 million for K-12 classrooms and $100 million for rural economic development projects, according to a state release.

The amended budget sets new spending levels for the period up to July 1, when the next fiscal year (2025) begins.
