FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Georgia Governor Brian Kemp revealed in an interview with CNN that he was interviewed by a special counsel centered around former President Donald Trump's alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
Kemp, speaking in an interview with CNN, stated, "It really didn't last that long; I mean, I basically told them what I told the special grand juries, that I followed the law and the Constitution, answered all their questions truthfully."
This interview with Special Counsel Jack Smith's office comes in the wake of Governor Kemp's testimony to a special grand jury in Georgia in 2022 as part of a separate investigation.
The rift between Trump and Kemp has been apparent since the Republican governor refused to overturn the election results. Trump, on his part, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

During his interview with CNN, Gov. Kemp also addressed recent hearings on Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade, and Georgia's 2020 election interference case. Specifically, Kemp discussed whether the public would accept the investigation's findings if Willis were allowed to continue her role on the case.
"Six months ago, eight months ago, I never thought this case would go to trial before the election then, and I think most people think that's the case now," Kemp remarked during the CNN interview. "So, as far as I'm concerned, I don't think voters should get too distracted on all of this and just stay focused on what's at hand going into November and let Judge McAfee make his ruling."
That hearing began last week after Trump codefendant Mike Roman alleged that Wade used a portion of the money he made from the election interference case to pay for trips that he and Willis took together.
Arguments from lawyers could continue at the end of this week or sometime next week. A ruling on disqualification would follow sometime later.
