Centerville Mayor John Harley says the Centerville Police Department has a temporary leader, thanks to the Houston County Sheriff's Office.

Harley says the head of the Houston County Sheriff's office patrol division, Capt. Ronnie Harlowe, will be in charge of the Centerville Police Department for the next three months.

This agreement came after Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton agreed to help run their police department for 90 days until they can hire a new chief.

Last week, Sheriff Talton, told 13WMAZ he agreed to loan the city an officer and a "backup" to run their department during the police department's staffing shortage.

Talton said Centerville had replaced Edward Tucker, their director of police services, and another officer, but he said he didn't know why.

"We were requested to help until they find a chief," he said.

A copy of the agreement, provided by Harley, says, "Centerville is in need of a certified and qualified public safety officer(s) to oversee and manage its police department temporarily."

The agreement signed Wednesday morning says Talton will supply one or more officers, but that they will be under joint supervision of the sheriff and the city.

Harley says Capt. Harlowe is expected to meet with the Centerville Police Department on Monday afternoon to introduce himself, and get acquainted with the staff.
