MACON, Ga. — The voice of the Macon Mayhem hockey team, who also manages a historic inn, is now the seventh announced candidate for Macon-Bibb mayor.
Charles Olson announced Monday that he's taken out papers to raise money for the 2020 mayor's race.
In a news release, Olson, 34, wrote, "I think like a lot of people in Macon-Bibb, I am very concerned about the direction our community is heading. Our taxes are skyrocketing. Crime rates are through the roof and still rising, and our kids don’t have the opportunities they need to succeed."
He manages the history 1842 Inn bed and breakfast on College Street and works as public-address announcer for the Mayhem.
Olson is a first-time candidate.
Robert Reichert steps down next year after 12 years in the mayor's office.
Already in the race:
Qualifying for the 2020 mayor's race happens next March and people in Macon-Bibb will vote May 19. If a runoff is needed, it would happen July 21.
