Ride-sharing tips to have a safe Bragg Jam weekend

As the musical festival rolls around, more people will take Ubers and Lyfts to stay safe traveling. Here are some quick tips to keep in mind.

MACON, Ga. — "That one's kind of creepy, I don't think I want to ride with him, so I just cancel and pick somebody else," Teia Anderson says as she scrolls through her Uber app.

She is ultimately deciding which stranger to trust to get her home safely.

"I can be kind of skeptical about using it sometimes," Anderson said.

As she gears up for Bragg Jam, she wants more time to enjoy the music and less worrying about a safe ride home.

What are some safe practices for ride-sharing?

"I really do have so much fun doing this," Uber driver Stephanie Brooks said.

Brooks anticipates a long weekend with the two day music festival.

"I start about 5 and maybe once I get everything situated, then I'll probably go until 5 o'clock in the morning," Brooks said.

Brooks recommends riders check their Uber's license plates.

"The first time anyone has ever checked my tag was last week and it'd be a good idea to check my tag. Look at my face, look at your app, and make sure my face matches," Brooks said.

Once you get in the car, ride in backseat to give you and the driver personal space.

Share your location on the ride-sharing app with friends and family and trust your intuition.

"Try and make conversation, if they don't want to engage in conversion, just make sure that the route is being followed, and then get out of the car as fast as possible," Brooks said.

Anderson plans to stick to the buddy system.

"I never be by myself, because it's too dangerous to by myself especially at night time," Anderson said.

That way for Anderson, every ride is a safe one.
