When it comes to getting a bucket of ice water dumped on your head to raise money for ALS, President Obama says: Thanks, but no thanks.
He'll give money instead.
Obama is responding to Ethel Kennedy and other members of the Kennedy family, who welcomed the president to his Martha's Vineyard vacation by making the "Ice Bucket Challenge" to raise awareness of ALS.
"Welcome to Cape Cod, President Obama," Mrs. Kennedy said. "I nominate you."
The White House said in a statement to the Boston Globe: "The president appreciates Mrs. Kennedy thinking of him for the challenge -- though his contribution to this effort will be monetary."
Obama will make the donation this week, the White House said.
