MACON, Ga. — More than 2 million voters cast their ballots early. That record number is a sign that this election is important to many Georgians.
"Right now is a good time for our country to come together. Every standup so their voices can be heard," Alicia Roberts said.
She does not take her constitutional right to vote for granted that's why she voted early.
"Its important that we continue to exercise that right," Roberts said.
"We have really good voter registration but our voter participation hasn't always been what it should be. So seeing more numbers is a good thing," Interim Election Supervisor for Bibb County Thomas Gillon said.
If you choose to exercise your right to vote on November 8 Gillon says the large early turnout may make things go more smoothly.
"The more people we have show up here, should be not quite as many to show up on election day," he said.
The polls open across Georgia from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
It is now easier for someone to challenge your voter status. If that happens and you find out at the polls here is what you need to do.
"We have a process if someone challenges their registration. We will let them vote on a hand marked ballot and the board will have a hearing and the challenger will have to prove their case and if they don't then the vote counts," Gillon said.
Roberts says overall voting is about her voice being heard.
"We have a right just as anyone else to verbalize our concerns with our country," Roberts said.
