A North Carolina woman was arrested after hitting a pedestrian on Interstate 75 Saturday night.
According to a Peach County Sheriff's Office news release, Mary Merlo was trying to exit I-75 onto the Hwy. 247 connector when she struck the pedestrian, who had crossed over the exit ramp into the median from the emergency lane when he was struck by Merlo.
The Peach County news release said Merlo is charged with driving under the influence and vehicular homicide.
However, Georgia State Patrol is now the lead investigating agency of the crime and they said Merlo is only charged with DUI and other charges are pending as the case is still under investigation.
The pedestrian has been identified as Leonard E. Suits Jr., 58, of Knoxville, Ga.
